Charter School of Excellence Grading Philosophy & Rubric

The Charter School of Excellence incorporates a blended model of grading; both traditional grades and standard grades will be reported on a quarterly basis.

The traditional course grade is used to indicate overall performance using assignment and test scores to calculate a final quarterly grade. These quarterly grades are used in the calculation of a student’s GPA, class rank, and are the grades displayed on a student’s transcript and report card.

Standard Grades, based on PA Academic Standards, are calculated from the assignment score and should be indicative of the student’s level of understanding for each academic standard covered in a given unit. Tracking standard grades are used to develop a student’s individual learning plan and drive classroom instruction. They are not used in GPA calculation and will not be visible on a student’s transcript or report card.  To view standard grades, log on to PowerSchool (click for more details.)
