Administration and Support

  • Dr. Nick Viglione, CEO, received his B.S. in Psychology (Edinboro University), M.S. in CounselingIMG_8462-e1443538135434-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Center Psychology (Gannon University) and Ed.D. in Education Leadership (Nova Southeastern University). He holds certifications in Guidance and Administration and a PA letter of eligibility. Dr. Viglione has been working with Urban students for the past twenty-three years. He is a national trainer for Education and Treatment Alternative and the Life Space Crisis Intervention institute. He is a published author and recipient of the 2006 Arnold Goldstein Humanitarian Award.
  • Chris Fortin, Director of Pupil Services/School Psychologist, received his B.S. in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the chris1-e1443448317850-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterUniversity of Pittsburgh, M.Ed. in Educational Psychology (Edinboro University) and M.S. in Education Leadership (Edinboro University). He holds PA Department of Education certifications in School Psychology and K-12 Administration. Mr. Fortin has been working with Urban students for the past twenty-one years. He currently oversees the student support services within the Charter School of Excellence. In his spare time, he is physically active, enjoys running with his wife, coaches his daughter’s travel softball team, golfs with his sons, and engages in family time as much as possible with his wife and four children and their dog
  • Dan Hanas, Principal,obtained a bachelor’s degree of arts from Gannon University in 2002. He then began working for Perseus House’s Shelter and Alternative Education Program for noid1q01186-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Centerthree years until beginning at the Charter School of Excellence in 2005. Since then Dan has acquired his Masters in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University and completed his Principal K-12 coursework. He has received the Charter School of Excellence’s Staff Member of the Year twice during his service to the organization.
  • Kaylie Larson, School Guidance Counselor at the Leadership Center, received her B.S. in Education from Clarion University in 2010 and her M.A. in Counseling from EdinboroLARSONmissing-First-Name Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Center University in 2013. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and holds PA certifications in K-6 Education, K-6 School Counseling, and 7-12 School Counseling. Miss Larson began working at CSE in 2016 and had previous experience as a Blended Case Manager, a Mobile Therapist, a Behavior Specialist Consultant, and a Behavior Counselor. Miss Larson’s favorite part of being a counselor is helping students to use their education and unique abilities to overcome adversity and create the future they want for themselves. In her spare time she enjoys going to the beach, reading, dancing, painting, and spending time with family, friends, and her adorable dog, Maverick.
  • Jackie Miller, MHT/B.E.S.T. Liaison, received her B.S. in Criminal Justice (Gannon University), Behavior Specialist Certificate (Gannon University) and M.S. in Education (Gannon University). jackie-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterMs. Miller has worked with Urban students since 2003. She is committed to getting the needed services for our students and helping them overcome social or behavioral issues that are a barrier to their education. Ms. Miller oversees the BEST meetings and is partnered with our SAP, Special Education Department, and the Nursing Programs. She has two children, one in high school and one in college.
  • Amanda Hanas, Executive Administrative Assistant, attended both Mercyhurst Prep and Mercyhurst College. She ran track and field and was also a member of the French and Drama club. amanda-web-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterMrs. Hanas has been a staff member at the Charter School of Excellence since 2005. She was an integral member of the Leadership Center when it first opened its doors, then moved on to help open the Skills Center. Mrs. Hanas is back at Leadership Center where she is currently the Executive Administrative Assistant to the CEO. Mrs. Hanas earned Staff Member of the Year in 2009 and in her spare time enjoys reading, movies, and spending time with her family.
  • Maria Burkley, Administrative Assistant, worked at the Fort LeBoeuf School District for severalmaria-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Center years before she began working at Perseus House’s Residential Programs in 2010. From that position, she moved to the Perseus House Collaborative Learning Center as the Administrative Assistant before coming to Leadership at the beginning of the fall 2014 school year. While at work, Maria enjoys helping the students, parents, and teachers so that the students can be successful. While at home, Maria is involved with her all of her family’s sporting activities and enjoys walking her German Shephard, Jinx.
  • Mike Williamson, Program Facilitator, obtained a BS in Social Work from Mercyhurst University in 2014. He completed his senior internship at the Leadership Center in 2014 and was hired byIMG_8447-e1444307146754-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Center  Perseus House Inc. after graduating to work in the residential facilities.  He has been at the Leadership Center since spring of 2015. He is also the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Cross Country coach at Mercyhurst University where he was the Men’s team captain his senior year. He enjoys running and competing in local races as well as playing Ultimate Frisbee as part of the Erie Ultimate League.


  • Mindy Boyd, Personal Development, Skills and Apps, has been teaching at the Charter School of mindy-e1443448586838-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterExcellence since 2009 and after graduating from Edinboro University. She created the curriculum for a required course on career and job preparation, called Skills and Applications. She serves as a Teacher Mentor, NHS staff member, BEST team, Phoenix status committee, and head of Leadership’s student government. In 2012 Mrs. Boyd was awarded “Teacher of the Year” by her colleagues, and most recently, she became a writing contributor to the character book, entitled Character: Be About It.
  • Justin Gomes, Math, obtained a bachelor’s degree and PA education certificate from Edinboro IMG_8457-e1443538234990-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterUniversity. He has been teaching at the Leadership center since January 2014. Prior to working at the leadership center, Justin was the full-time building substitute at Maritime. Justin enjoys spending time with his wife, golfing, watching sports, and working out.
  • Katie Hall, Science, obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology from Duquesne University. She then returned to Duquesne University where she earned a Masters in Science Education. While her love for science is unending, she is most captivated by the field of genetics as it relates to microbiology. She is dedicated to providing a unique exploration of the scientific world and will gladly share any number of scientific riddles and interesting facts to make a perceivably boring subject fun. In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding, running, playing classical music on her flute and going on long hikes with her husband and her dog.
  • Robert Hammer, Edgeunity Lab, graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School in 00’. received his bob-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Centerundergraduate degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Edinboro University in 08’, and I is currently wrapping up his Masters in Special Education at Walden University. Previously he worked as a Therapeutic Support Staff for Children’s Behavioral Health of Erie for 5 years and as a Teacher for Abraxas Learning Center of Erie until closure. He has four children, three girls and one boy ages 12, 10, 6 and 2. For fun he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, playing with my kids, traveling and playing football for the Erie Explosion.
  • Heather Hastings, Social Studies, obtained a bachelor’s degree in Specialized Studies with a Minor in Spanish Language from Edinboro University and continued her education there to earn her Masters in Middle/ Secondary Instruction and obtaining her PA Education Certificate in Social wilmoth-e1443452253860-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterStudies. She is currently enrolled at Slippery Rock University where she is completing her Masters in Special Education. She has taught in Public Schools, Collaborative Learning Center, and is a first year teacher here at Leadership. She enjoys reading and listening to a range of literature as well as traveling. She has been to most of the States, New Zealand, Ecuador, Mexico, England, and Thailand. She was an All-America Cross Country runner in college and continues to run competitively today in which she has been accepted to run in the elite Boston Marathon in 2016. She also enjoys knitting, painting, kayaking/canoeing, hiking, mountain/road biking, gardening, golfing (both Frisbee and club) which she does with her fiance and dogs.
  • Amber McDowell, Math, obtained a bachelor’s, master’s degree, and PA education certificate froIMG_8454-e1443538434865-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Centerm Edinboro University. She has been teaching for several years working with students in an urban setting. She is passionate about helping students succeed and being a mentor to her past students. In her free time Amber enjoys spending time with her family and friends and traveling to different parts of the world.
  • Jeff Sweeny, Edgenuity Lab, Graduated Gannon University 1991 with a BA in Social Science. Jeff has worked with Erie City youth since sweeny2-200x300 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Center1986 in programs such ErieBoy’s and Girls Club, Upward Bound, Erie School District and as a teacher for Perseus House Alternative Education since 1999. Jeff enjoys history, martial arts, fishing and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.
  • Amanda Williard, Science, obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Chemistry minor and Pwillard-e1443452167411-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership CenterA education certification from Edinboro University. Amanda Williard taught College Prep, Honors, AP, and IB Biology in North Carolina for four years. Amanda has certifications in Advance Placement and International Baccalaureate Biology. She also was the head coach of Varsity Lacrosse in High Point, NC.
  • Brittany Yost, Social Studies, obtained a bachelor’s, master’s degree, and PA education certificateIMG_8451-e1443538590998-150x150 Teachers and Staff for the Leadership Center from Edinboro University. She has been teaching since 2008 and has been at the Charter School of Excellence for the past three years. She has spent her career working with students in an urban setting. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.
