2021 CSE-ELD Showcase

11 8, 2021

Our 2021 CSE and English Language Development Showcase Presentation will be held on November 8th, during parent-teacher conferences, at all three locations.

Skills Center:

At the Skills Center, the ELD department present cultural displays on the 4 major cultural demographics currently represented in our school. Guests will be presented with a cultural tri-fold handout with descriptions of these displays, which will also be presented in the to-go orders for pasta night on November 4. Included on each of the four panels in the handout will be a description of the major holidays surrounding this time of year, namely Dashain and Diwali for Nepali/Hindi, Eid and Ramadan for Arabic, The Day of the Dead for Hispanic, and African. We will also have cultural displays in the Cool Beans area and outside of room 103 from these cultures to include posters and artifacts. Additionally, the video developed last year through the ELD department will be looping on the TV in Cool Beans for the duration of the conference.

Leadership Center:

At the Leadership Center students will begin researching and brainstorming ideas for the Cultural Heritage Project which will be on display in the Leadership Center Cafeteria for families to see when they attend parent conferences on November 8th.  Our school is very diverse and we want to celebrate our different backgrounds for all to see.  A table will be used to research information based upon your family's culture and traditions.  Students will spend at least 30 minutes searching the internet finding valid resources and writing them in the graphic organizer below.  The activities in this packet will be on display for your families so take your time on this project and make your families proud!

Discovery Center:

For the Cultural Showcase at the Discovery Center students are completing a Cultural Heritage Silhouette. Students will begin by researching their cultural heritage by answering some questions about their background and their interest. They will then research their origins. They will collect symbols, artifacts, cultural icons, foods, and other important cultural pieces into a jamboard that is shared with their teacher.  Once they have completed the research they will build a portrait like the one you see below. They will also write an essay explaining their choices and important parts of the culture that influenced them.
